On one hand, I agree. On the other...

I don’t mind it but I don’t usually encourage it

We let our first beagle sleep in our bed, because it was hers first and she started that. I had to get used to it when we moved in together, and I did. When he passed, we got used to sleeping without a dog on the bed.

We got a second beagle, and he’s been sleeping in his crate every night since we adopted him because we didn’t trust him to be left to roam free at night. We both said we’d eventually let him sleep on the bed because we kind of missed it, and felt bad for him.

10 months in, h e now walks straight to the crate and gets in by himself without us putting him in there. We just close the door behind him. We’ve agreed that as long as he’s happy sleeping in the crate, we’re happy to let him.

Solution: Get a winter dog! Often it’s too warm for them to stay on the bed. I’ve had huskies and now a german shepherd, none have wanted to sleep in the bed.

I also own two Dysons and three robotic vacuums (edited from “robotic robots” because not-enough-coffee) , all working. I’m sure these things are unrelated.

I was never a dog in the bed kind of guy until I met my wife, similar to Roundbadge. I’ve had some dogs that really didn’t care for it, and some that loved it. The biggest issue is that when you have multiple large(ish) dogs, it becomes difficult to find your own space on the bed sometimes.

My one lab I had years ago would only rarely get in to the bed.  Which was good, because he was pretty tall.  When he stretched out he’d take out most of a queen bed.

Its uhh... I have mixed feelings. Might starting rolling out back with Dog B because trying to move with a 75 pound cuddle monster laying on you is un fun.

So Sidenote: I took that picture moments ago and am still trying to get out of bed. Dog cuddles are awesome and work is not.

We have a 70lb Boxer and (last time she was at the vet) a 140lb English Mastiff. They’re pretty polite about choosing a spot on the bed. Some nights we’ll throw up a baby gate in the doorway to our room if we don’t feel like having them in there (or if one of them is dirty/smelly).

But Sunday mornings with both dogs and the baby for an hour or so before we actually get up is the best!

My doggo isn't permitted on furniture, and will never ever ever ever be allowed on the bed.

we have a shitpoo I call her (shih tzu/poodle mix ). She was here when I moved in and was already sleeping on the bed so I had to get used to it. Luckily she’s small and it’s a king sized mattress so even when she’s in my way I can get around her because she usually sleeps against my legs. When I get in bed and am settled in she’ll get as close as she can and doesn’t move.

The weird part...she’s small, around 10-12 lbs. But once she settles in she weighs 300 lbs. She just doesn’t move for any reason once she’s set. You can pull on the sheets and she just lays there. For that reason I nicknamed her boulder.

This is my fi rst small dog and first time with a dog sleeping in my bed. I wouldn’t allow a large dog to do the same. Also because she’s got Poodle in her she doesn’t really shed much so hair isn’t much of an issue.

I take it one step further - no dogs on any of the furniture.

Last night my 4-year-old daughter fell asleep with one of our dogs in bed with her, an arm draped over the dog’s neck. It was, without a doubt, the cutest thing I have ever seen.

There is no reason why a dog can’t sleep in a crate at night.

We’ve never let the dogs on the furniture. I’ve had dogs for over 25 years and it’s never been an issue.

Yes, I think that this definitely depends on size of the dog. Biggest issue is that the air temp near the floor gets fairly cold, and the current dog is not an expert at covering himself with blankets, so my wife feels bad . . . but the dog likes to lean up on me if in the bed, me, the one who really wants his space when sleeping.

This is an ongoing point of tension in my home. But it’s not too tense because adorable dog.

Dogs are better co-sleepers than toddlers.

It really does all depend on the size of the dog. Elwood was ~40 lbs and we encouraged him onto the bed with us. He would usually leave in the middle of the night because he got too warm, but it’s really nice to have a warm doggy hug available anytime. They don’t get all offended if you wake them up, they just roll over for more belly rub... That said, we have a king size bed and that makes it a lot easier.

I haven’t had a dog in my bed since the divorce.  Now I have the occasional pupper, but not every night.

Same, I love my dog all 80 lbs of him but he is not allowed on any furniture and never on any beds. My dog runs around outside and loves playing in the dirt and grass why would I bring that into my bed. And if you’re trying to get some late night action how can you if you got a bunch of dogs in the bed.

sometimes you have to take that lump for the doggo...I used to move my legs a bit (RLS) but since I’ve moved in here I don’t suffer as much. Kinda like when you become a parent and you can somehow sleep with babies and not hurt them. I find it curious she never slept against my gf like that, only me.

She won’t get out of bed unless she’s certain we are both not coming back. She also paces between the bedroom and living room if mom goes to bed before me as if to say “c’mon, it’s bedtime”!She’d happily stay in bed all day if we were in it.
